Amma Panin
Amma Panin is Fellow at the African Tech Futures Lab. She is a Professor of Economics at the University of Louvain, where her research explores how people make decisions under risk and uncertainty, particularly in contexts where formal markets and institutions are limited or absent. She is especially known for her work on the economics of risk preferences, temporal discounting, and the role that social and religious institutions play as informal risk-coping mechanisms in developing countries.
Her research blends rigorous experimental methods with deep engagement in real-world settings, from lab experiments to fieldwork across Africa and beyond. Amma has published work in leading academic journals, including interdisciplinary collaborations with psychologists and political scientists. She actively contributes to several academic networks and research institutes.
