Murefu Barasa
Murefu Barasa serves on the Advisory Board of the African Tech Futures Lab. He is the founder of the pan-African consulting firm EED Advisory, chairperson of the Kenya Renewable Energy Association (KEREA), and a Fellow at the Energy for Growth Hub. His career began in development and climate finance, with roles at Practical Action, Camco Clean Energy, the African Development Bank, and the World Bank Group, where he contributed to a range of programmes at the intersection of energy and economic growth. He brings a systems perspective to energy transitions, combining on-the-ground implementation experience with strategic advice on policy and investment.
Murefu is often preoccupied with deceptively simple questions about how policy, finance, and technology can help advance African societies and economies. He holds a BSc in Environmental Studies from Kenyatta University and a Master’s in Environmental Science from Yale University, and is both a Compton Fellow and an Education for Sustainable Energy Development (ESED) scholar.
