Kari Mugo
Kari Mugo is a Fellow at the African Tech Futures Lab. She is a Kenyan storyteller, community organizer, and communications practitioner known for her work in media, public engagement, and social justice advocacy. Kari has contributed to various publications, including Africa Is a Country and The Elephant, where her writings recently focused on political and social issues in Kenya.
In her professional capacity, Kari serves as the Voices Programme Lead at the Mawazo Institute, a non-profit research organization based in Nairobi. In this role, she supports the work of early-career African women researchers, aiming to amplify their voices and contributions to the global research community. Kari also led the development of the Mawazo Institute's public engagement program and is passionate about supporting African researchers to step into their spotlight.
Beyond her writing and consultancy work, Kari is an avid traveler and performer, engaging in various forms of storytelling to advocate for social justice and equity. Kari pursued a Master of Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where she worked on her first fiction manuscript. Her creative work often explores themes of identity, intersectionality, travel, and the arts.
