June Lukuyu
June Lukuyu is a Fellow at the African Tech Futures Lab and Energy for Growth Hub. She is also an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Washington and a Research Fellow at the Kigali Collaborative Research Centre. Her work focuses on improving the planning, reliability, and equity of energy systems in the Global South, with a particular emphasis on African contexts and socially-vulnerable communities. She combines data analytics, energy systems modeling, and community-engaged research to inform policy and investment decisions around electricity access, grid resilience, and clean energy transitions.
June engages with policymakers, utilities, minigrid developers, and development partners to help translate technical evidence into actionable strategies for more reliable, affordable, and inclusive power systems. She holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, an MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technologies from Loughborough University, and a BS in Engineering Science from Smith College.
